The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has disclosed that the National Assembly is yet to conclude its legislative work on the Electoral Act, assuring Nigerians that the Senate remains committed to strengthening the country’s democratic process through credible electoral reforms.

Speaking during a recent session, Akpabio emphasized that electoral reforms are being handled with utmost seriousness, noting that the Senate will not rush the process but will ensure that every amendment reflects the collective interest of Nigerians and the future of the nation’s democracy.

According to him, the Electoral Act remains a critical framework that determines the conduct of elections, and the Senate is determined to deliver a more transparent, inclusive, and effective electoral system.

In the same vein, the Senate President strongly condemned the recent attack on the National Assembly, describing it as an assault on democracy and the sanctity of Nigeria’s legislative institution.

Akpabio warned that no democracy can thrive where national institutions are threatened or undermined, stressing that disagreements must always be resolved through dialogue and lawful engagement rather than violence or intimidation.

He reaffirmed that the National Assembly represents the voice of the Nigerian people and must be protected at all times to ensure stability, governance, and national development.

The Senate President therefore called on citizens to continue supporting democratic institutions while the legislature works tirelessly to deliver reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process and democratic governance.
