Speculation is gaining momentum within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and across social media platforms that Ife-born politician, Hon. Tunde Lekan Olatunji, may have been picked as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Although the APC has not made any official announcement regarding the deputy governorship slot, several party insiders familiar with ongoing consultations claim that Olatunji’s name has received the backing of influential stakeholders within the party. However, other sources suggest his emergence could be strategic, possibly as a placeholder pending further internal negotiations.

Olatunji, a former Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, represented Ife-North State Constituency during his tenure in the legislature. His reported selection is believed by some observers to be a calculated political move aimed at consolidating support in the politically significant Ife axis, while also strengthening the party’s grassroots network across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, party leaders have declined to comment on the development, maintaining silence that has further fueled uncertainty and heightened interest in who will eventually secure the APC’s deputy governorship ticket for the 2026 race.
