A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Olajumoke Akinjide, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party after more than two decades of membership.
Akinjide announced her departure in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State on Monday. She explained that the decision followed a period of deep personal reflection.
“This decision was not taken lightly, considering that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” she stated.
In the letter titled “Letter of Resignation from the PDP,” she confirmed that her exit takes immediate effect, while expressing gratitude for the opportunities and relationships she built during her time in the party.
“I appreciate the platform the party provided for political engagement and office, and I wish it success in the future,” she added.
Her resignation was also confirmed by a close associate, Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area, who described the development as accurate.
Political Career
Akinjide served as Minister of State for the FCT between 2011 and 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan. During her time in office, she also briefly held the position of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
Earlier in her career, she worked as Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters from 2001 to 2003, and later handled responsibilities relating to G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
Her exit marks a significant political shift in Oyo State, where she has long been a prominent figure within the PDP.
