The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has stepped down from his position as he prepares to advance his political career in Kebbi State.

Sununu confirmed his resignation on Monday, noting that his decision aligns with regulations requiring public office holders seeking elective positions to vacate their posts.

When contacted, the former minister simply affirmed that he had resigned.

Sununu, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Shanga, Yauri, and Ngaski Federal Constituency, is believed to be setting his sights on the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Before his role in the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, he served as Commissioner for Education in Kebbi State. During his time in public service, he was credited with implementing several social and developmental initiatives that positively impacted communities across the state.

His resignation adds to the growing list of political office holders stepping down in preparation for the 2027 elections.
