Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has called for stronger youth participation in national development, describing young Nigerians as vital partners in shaping the country’s future.

Tuggar made the appeal during an interactive session with youths in Abuja. The event, hosted by the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Dayo Israel, took place at the Youth House and brought together young voices to discuss leadership, diplomacy and civic engagement.

According to the minister, Nigeria’s development aspirations can only be fully realised when the energy, creativity and ideas of its youthful population are properly harnessed. He stressed that young people must not be seen as mere beneficiaries of policies but as active contributors to decision-making processes and national progress.

Tuggar encouraged youths to stay involved in civic activities and policy discussions that influence both Nigeria’s domestic priorities and its standing on the global stage. He noted that meaningful engagement would help align government initiatives with the realities and aspirations of younger generations.

The programme featured open conversations on youth-driven development and reflections on how collaboration between government and young citizens can be strengthened. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining partnerships that promote empowerment and inclusion nationwide.

In his remarks, Israel said the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between political leaders and young Nigerians by creating platforms that promote dialogue, participation and shared responsibility in nation-building.
