The organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have officially announced the nominees for the 12th edition of the prestigious awards, setting the stage for what promises to be another celebration of African film and television.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 9, with entries spanning a wide range of categories that reflect the diversity and growth of the industry across the continent.
Earlier, the organisers confirmed the appointment of veteran actress Joke Silva as Head Judge, taking over from Femi Odugbemi.
This year’s edition features a total of 32 categories, including 18 jury-decided awards, 11 audience-voted categories, and three special honours such as the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.
In a move to deepen its continental reach, two new categories have been introduced: Best Indigenous Language Film (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa).

In the Best Digital Content Creator category, personalities like Elozonam Ogbolu, Taaooma, and Steve Chuks are among the nominees.
The Best Supporting Actress category features top talents including Funke Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, and Sola Sobowale.
For Best Lead Actor, actors such as Mike Ezuruonye, Lateef Adedimeji, and Kanayo O. Kanayo secured nominations.
In the Best Lead Actress category, names like Bimbo Akintola, Genoveva Umeh, and Gloria Anozie-Young are in contention.
The highly anticipated Best Overall Movie category includes titles such as Gingerrr, The Herd, My Father’s Shadow, 3 Cold Dishes, The Serpent’s Gift, and Behind The Scenes.
Other categories which ranges from directing, cinematography, and editing to sound design, costume, and documentary also feature a strong mix of established stars and emerging talents across Africa.
With a rich blend of creativity, storytelling, and technical excellence reflected in this year’s nominations, expectations are already high for the awards night.
