The Federation of Egbedore Local Government Student Association (FELGSA) has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of the member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Salam, over what it described as his remarkable contributions to education and youth empowerment in the constituency.
The endorsement was announced during a press conference held at Idoosun Town Hall, where the National President of FELGSA, Comrade Kehinde Lawal, praised Salam’s commitment to student welfare and academic development.
Lawal described the lawmaker’s educational interventions as “impactful and unprecedented,” noting that the BS-E4 Education Support Programmes had positively affected thousands of students across the constituency.
“Our position is not based on sentiment. It is based on visible and verifiable interventions that students, parents and communities can testify to,” he said.
According to him, more than 5,000 students in tertiary institutions have benefited from bursary awards facilitated by the lawmaker, while over 6,000 secondary school students benefited from free summer coaching and ICT training programmes.
He added that Salam’s educational support initiatives also include the distribution of free JAMB forms, scholarship schemes for indigent students, mentorship programmes for outstanding UTME candidates, and sponsorship opportunities for students to attend leadership conferences in Abuja.
The student body further commended Salam for supporting FELGSA’s secretariat project with a N5 million grant, constructing classroom blocks, distributing educational materials to schools, and organising annual bootcamps and interactive sessions with student leaders.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Opeyemi Ayeni said the gathering was organised to appreciate the lawmaker’s consistent support for students and youths within the constituency.
“The impact of Hon. Bamidele Salam cannot be overemphasised. We urge students across Egbedore and the entire Ede Federal Constituency to support him for the continuation of his good works,” he stated.
Also speaking, the President of the Federation of Awo Students Union, Comrade Usman Adeyemi, described Salam’s annual bursary initiative as a landmark achievement in the constituency.
“Salam’s interventions in education through bursary payments, scholarships, summer lessons and other programmes have greatly assisted students in achieving their academic goals,” Adeyemi said.
FELGSA, which described itself as the apex student body in Egbedore Local Government, also appealed to political stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence and focus on issue-based campaigns as political activities intensify ahead of the general elections.
