The Students’ House of Senate of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo, has recorded a major milestone with the successful hosting of its maiden Clerical Conference, tagged CLERICON’26, aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and legislative service within the institution.
The conference, organised by the Office of the Chief Clerk in collaboration with the Students’ Union Government, was held on Saturday at the Faculty of Arts Board Room and attracted student leaders, legislative officers, departmental clerks and other stakeholders across the university.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Clerk of the Students’ House of Senate, Sen. Ayuba Adewale Oyenpemi, popularly known as Prudent, described the conference as the first of its kind in the university’s history and a significant step towards building a more professional and digitally driven administrative system.
The conference, themed “Strengthening Administrative Excellence Through Modern Office Practices and Digital Innovation,” featured presentations on modern office administration, digital record management and documentation, as well as the challenges and prospects of clerical services.
Participants also took part in practical sessions designed to improve their documentation, record-keeping, leadership and service delivery skills.
In his welcome address, Oyenpemi said the initiative was conceived to equip clerical officers with the knowledge and competencies required to meet the demands of modern administration.
According to him, CLERICON’26 represents more than just a conference, but the beginning of a new tradition of capacity building for the legislative arm of the Students’ Union Government.
“Today’s conference is more than just an event; it marks the beginning of a new tradition of capacity building within our legislative arm. I encourage every participant to maximise the knowledge shared during the sessions and apply it in their various offices and departments,” he said.
The Chief Clerk expressed appreciation to the university management, lecturers, resource persons, student leaders and members of the planning committee for supporting the initiative.
Oyenpemi further commended the Students’ Union Executive Council led by President Comrade James Friday, the Students’ House of Senate under Senate President Distinguished Sen. Olayeni Temitayo Okikiola, his predecessor Sen. Akinsowon Taofeek, his Deputy Clerk, members of the BEST Agenda Team and the conference planning committee for their commitment to the success of the event.
He also acknowledged the contributions of several mentors and leaders, including Mr. Abiola Olaide Lobentus, Dr. Wale Oyedeji, Dr. Saadu Taofeek, Dr. Tayo Odetade, Comrade Okunade Ibrahim and Comrade Oyeleye Goodness, whom he credited for shaping his leadership journey.
He expressed optimism that the conference would inspire greater professionalism, innovation and excellence in clerical and legislative administration across the university.
The successful hosting of CLERICON’26 is expected to lay a solid foundation for future training programmes and institutional reforms aimed at improving administrative standards within the Students’ Union Government and the wider university community.
