The Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, Osun State, on Thursday inducted 63 nursing graduates into the nursing profession, urging them to uphold professionalism, integrity and compassion in the delivery of healthcare services.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, congratulated the inductees on the successful completion of their academic and professional training, describing the milestone as a testament to their dedication, resilience and hard work.
Akindele said the university remains committed to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals equipped with the knowledge, competence and ethical values needed to address the healthcare needs of society.
He charged the newly inducted nurses to be worthy ambassadors of the institution by demonstrating excellence, discipline and empathy in the discharge of their duties.
“The nursing profession is one of service and sacrifice. As you begin this new phase of your career, let integrity, professionalism and compassion define your practice,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning and continuous professional development to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving healthcare sector.
Delivering the induction lecture, Prof. Emmanuel Anyebe described the 21st-century healthcare environment as dynamic and increasingly complex, urging the nurses to remain resilient and committed despite the challenges they may encounter in the profession.
He noted that while healthcare institutions may not always meet their expectations, they should remain focused on providing quality, patient-centred care.
Anyebe encouraged the inductees to pursue postgraduate studies and professional certifications to enhance their expertise and specialise in their preferred areas of practice.
He also challenged them to become transformative leaders capable of inspiring positive change through integrity, innovation and excellence rather than merely occupying leadership positions.
According to him, honesty, ethical practice, innovation and the effective application of technology are essential for sustaining public confidence in the nursing profession.
He further advised the new nurses to guard their integrity, manage their emotions professionally, uphold the core values of nursing and allow their conscience to guide every decision in practice.
Earlier, the Head of the Department of Nursing, Mrs. Deborah Onisile, congratulated the graduates, saying their commitment and hard work had earned them the privilege of joining the nursing profession.
She urged them to provide comfort, hope and healing to patients while practising within the ethical boundaries of the profession.
Onisile also encouraged the inductees to embrace innovation without compromising the core values of nursing, stressing the importance of prioritising patient safety and maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct.
She reminded them that they now belong to the global community of nurses and should always serve as credible ambassadors of the profession.
The ceremony climaxed with the administration of the induction oath on the 63 graduates, officially admitting them into the nursing profession as registered nurses.
