Starlight FC of Ede emerged champions of the 12th edition of the Oba Dr. Folorunsho Agboola Makanjuola Football Competition after defeating Ultimate FC of Iragberi 3-1 in a thrilling final played as part of the 2026 annual Ojude Oba celebrations.
The competition, which has become a major sporting event in Iragberi was organized in collaboration with the annual Ojude Oba festival and sponsored by the Chairman of Egbedore Local Government, Honourable Hissa Akinwale, as part of efforts to promote youth development and strengthen community ties through sports.
Honourable Issa, who performed the ceremonial kick-off before the final match, called on players, officials and supporters to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, noting that football remains a powerful tool for fostering peace, unity and mutual understanding among people of different political, religious and social backgrounds.
According to the council chairman, sports provide a unique platform for bringing communities together and encouraging healthy interactions among young people.
Drawing a comparison with the Olympic Games, Hissa stressed that participation is just as important as winning, adding that while only one team could emerge victorious, every participant should take pride in contributing to the success of the tournament.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and sporting activities, describing sports as a vital instrument for promoting social cohesion and positive engagement across communities within the local government.
The final lived up to expectations as Starlight FC displayed determination and quality throughout the encounter, eventually securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Ultimate FC to claim the coveted trophy and emerge champions of the 2026 edition of the competition.
