The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid al-Fitr, the celebration that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful across the country for successfully completing the fasting period.
Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to uphold the core values of love, peace, generosity, tolerance, and sacrifice, which are central to Ramadan.
He also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued progress.
While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, the minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged.
He added that the government remains committed to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
