President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former Ogun State governor and senator, Gbenga Daniel, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, praising his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s development.
In a statement he personally signed on Monday, the President described Daniel as a distinguished engineer, accomplished entrepreneur, and influential politician whose impact has been felt across both the private and public sectors.
Tinubu attributed Daniel’s success to his “hard work, tenacity, wisdom, and courage,” noting that his achievements reflect years of dedication and resilience.
Highlighting their long-standing political relationship, the President recalled Daniel’s support during his emergence as governor of Lagos State in 1999.
“As a mark of the close relationship we have built, Otunba worked closely with me and others in the lead-up to my election and inauguration as governor of Lagos State in 1999, ensuring our victory,” Tinubu stated.
The President also commended Daniel’s accomplishments in business, particularly as the founder of Kresta Laurel, an electro-mechanical engineering firm established in 1990. He noted that the company’s growth reflects Daniel’s strong business acumen and determination.
Reflecting on his time as governor of Ogun State, Tinubu said Daniel’s administration was marked by strides in industrialisation, infrastructure development, education, and public-private partnerships.
He credited Daniel with key initiatives, including the development of the state’s first agro-allied cargo airport and the establishment of Tai Solarin University of Education.
Describing him as a progressive politician and committed member of the Afenifere movement, Tinubu also acknowledged Daniel’s political journey, including his return to the All Progressives Congress after previous affiliations with other parties.
“As Otunba clocks 70, I thank him for his service to Ogun State and Nigeria, and his continued commitment to national development,” the President said.
Tinubu concluded by wishing Daniel good health and many more years of impactful service to the nation.
