The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to go all out for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying he is prepared to bear the political consequences if the president loses.
Wike, who has continued to openly support Tinubu despite remaining a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, said his commitment to the president’s second-term bid has made him a target of opposition politicians.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the former governor said he believed he would be among the first politicians targeted if either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi defeats Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.
The minister, however, said the possibility of facing political backlash would not make him withdraw his support for Tinubu.
According to Wike, the president’s re-election has become a major focus of his political activities, adding that he remains determined to contribute to Tinubu’s victory regardless of the criticism directed at him.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
Wike also dismissed criticism of his alliance with Tinubu, saying he had faced intense attacks and name-calling because of his decision to support the president.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.
The former Rivers governor has emerged as one of the most vocal supporters of Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 presidential election, despite his continued membership of the PDP.
Wike said his decision was deliberate and that he was willing to accept the risks that came with it, insisting that his priority was to help Tinubu secure another term in office.
