The leadership of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), National Headquarters, led by Com Ajibola Lateef Folajimmy expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Jos, Plateau State, calling for urgent government intervention to safeguard the lives of Osun State students currently stranded in the affected areas.
NAOSS extends its heartfelt condolences to the people of Jos over the recent wave of violence and tragic loss of lives. These unfortunate incidents underscore the persistent security challenges confronting parts of the country. We pray for comfort for bereaved families, healing for the injured, and a swift restoration of peace.
As a body committed to the welfare and safety of Osun State students nationwide, we have received distressing reports and urgent calls from our members in Jos, indicating heightened fear, uncertainty, and exposure to danger. This situation has now reached a critical point that requires immediate and decisive action.
In light of this, NAOSS has put a call to the government in the last 48 hours and nothing is done about it but now we’re given the Governor of Osun State another 48 hours to urgently initiate and coordinate the safe evacuation of all Osun indigenes, including students and corps members, from Jos and its environs back home.
We deeply appreciate the Federal Government intervention aimed at intensify security efforts in Plateau State to restore order and protect lives and property.
However, NAOSS wishes to state clearly that failure by the Osun State Government to act within the next 48 hours will leave the association with no option but to mobilise peaceful mass protests across the state. This action will be taken to demand accountability and immediate intervention in the interest of our members whose lives are currently at risk.
The safety of Osun students is non-negotiable. We will not stand by while our colleagues remain in harm’s way without adequate response from those entrusted with their protection.
We call on all affected students to remain vigilant, stay indoors where necessary, and maintain constant communication with security agencies and NAOSS representatives.
NAOSS remains committed to continuous engagement with relevant authorities until all affected students are safely evacuated and normalcy is restored.
