The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, Hon Hassan Kamorudeen Okanlawon, has commenced the reconstruction of the Saviours Football Field as part of efforts to promote youth development and grassroots sports in the area.
The project, which is already making visible progress, reflects the administration’s focus on improving community infrastructure and creating opportunities for young people to engage in productive activities.
According to the information released by the Supervisory Councilor for Education and Information, Akorede Olawale, the chairman approved immediate intervention on the field after assessing its poor condition, which had made it unsafe and unsuitable for football activities. As part of the reconstruction, the playing surface has been graded to ensure it is level, safe, and fit for use. The development is expected to enhance the quality of play while reducing the risk of injuries among users.
In addition to grading the field, the council boss also facilitated the procurement of granite to reinforce the structure and ensure long-term durability. The use of quality materials, sources say, is aimed at delivering a sustainable solution rather than a temporary upgrade.
To ensure timely and professional execution, a construction team has been deployed to the site, overseeing the ongoing renovation work.
The reconstruction of the Saviours Football Field is widely seen as part of Hon. Okanlawon’s broader commitment to grassroots development, with a strong emphasis on youth empowerment, community engagement, and talent discovery through sports.
Residents and stakeholders have expressed optimism that the upgraded facility will serve as a hub for sporting activities and help nurture local talents.
